THE TYPES OF PROFESSIONS

There are two types of professions. There are the primary professions. You can only learn two of these at a time. If you choose to change, you have to drop one, and start the new one at the beginning. When you do this, you will lose any skills you learned from that profession. Make sure you choose the best ones from the start. If you go back to it, you will have to start over at the beginning.

There are also secondary professions. These can be learned by anyone, with no limit to how many you can learn. Each of the primary professions also has specializations you can choose as you increase in levels.

Choosing your profession will depend on what you want out of it. You should ask a few questions of yourself before continuing. Then you will better be able to decide which one is best for you.

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

• What do you want out of your professions?
• How Much time do you want to spend leveling them?
  
• Do you want to make your own weapons or armor?
• Do you want to make items to boost your spells or healing?
• Are you filling a gap needed in your guild?
  

After you can answer these questions, you will know which profession will be right for you.

Once you decide on a profession, you will need to find a trainer. There are trainers for most crafts in each of the major cities, as well as in some of the towns. Once you have apprenticed for a profession, the trainer will give you your first few plans so you can get started. These will give you your starting recipes.

Contrary to what many people have said, any craft can be profitable. I have leveled every profession, and I have made money at all of them. Some are harder than others may, but with a little time and research, you can make it work for you.

The important part is to research the market in your server and find which items from your craft are in demand. This will give you an idea of what recipes to focus on for leveling your craft skill. This can be done by listening to the trade channel, talking to people, and watching what sells, as well as what doesn’t sell, at the auction house.

LEARN THE LEVELING  CODE

Professions have a set color-coded system to let you know if you can level your skill or the likelihood of failure in your skill.

• RED—this means it is too high above your skill level attempts at these will automatically
• fail
• Orange—100% chance to skill up but also more likely to have failure
• Yellow— good chance of skillups possible. Failure unlikely
• Green—low chance of skillups,  but failure will not happen
• Gray—No skillups will occur at this level. You have surpassed the level of the item
