What’s The Reason To Be A Priest In Warcraft?
The usual wrong impression that online gamers have is that in the World of Warcraft, the immensely successful online game from Blizzard-Activision, priests are the healing class.
This, naturally, is merely partly true.
Priests are healers, indeed. But believe it or not, they are asked to do some heavy DPS.
Nihilum, the game’s top guild which proudly operate in the European servers, once delivered the world-changing declaration: “in our raids, our paladins heal, our shammies heal and our priests are damage dealers.” If a widely admired guild like Nihilum requires their priests to be DPSers, then you can rest assured that the entire WoW community will follow suit.
Priests have the option to be a healer or to do damage. But priests have lost the title of the best healers in the game since the arrival of the Burning Crusade expansion. Restoration-specced druids have more efficient HOTs (heals over time) than priests. Holy-specced pallies are more reliable single target healers than priests. And shamans are more desired multi-target healers compared to priests.
As healers, priests can be considered as students of many crafts but a mentor of none. They have fast heals, serviceable heals over time, and better-than-nothing AOE heals, but they’re simply not as good with these as the other jobs.
Hence, if they’re no longer the best healbots in the World of Warcraft, what should priests be doing come end game in 25 man raids? 2 functions actually.
Number one, as we have discussed before, priests are required to deal some heavy DPS. Focusing on shadow talents is best for this, what with several direct damage spells from the dark corner of magic.
Second, priests are exclusively excellent one essential role: mana batteries. Priests have special moves that multiply the mana refueling of magic users belonging to the same party. It is for this reason priests are grouped with spell casters – particularly healers – in 25 man setups.
Priests are excellent in soloing to the level cap. Before level 40, priests rely on wands as their main damage dealing weapon. But by level 40, most priests focus on shadow just to get shadow form, the main advantage for the class. Shadow form provides tremendouamazing increase in the shadow damage caused by priests.
Shadow priests are frighteningly efficient killers. It will take a shadow priest approximately one-fourth of the time it will take a warrior to kill a given mob.
Whether they heal or they do damage, priests are a great class that will justify your choice to create such a character.
