Why are human-beings always included in sci fi – fantasy universes?
In every one of them – Warcraft, Warhammer, Star Wars, 40k, Narnia, etc. . In reality, how could humans possibly coexist in a world full of much stronger creatures (orcs, trolls, whatever) and smarter as well (elves, draenei, etc.) . OK, i know you are gonna say “it’s a fantasy world, you can make it whatever you want no matter how unrealistic”, but even in that sense it doesn’t seem that humans should fit in with superior creatures. Could it be that the creators wanted to include humans in order to make it more familiar and avoid alienating the viewers?
I think that’s absolutely it. They want to create a link of familiarity for their viewers. It’s easier to relate to a human in a sci-fi/fantasy setting than to some weird creature.
Also, humans aren’t always inferior to other races. They just have different strength, otherwise they’d all have been killed or enslaved already.
