Brief Information about the Weapons of Medieval Knights

Whenever the word medieval Knight strikes in your mind, the horrifying picture of battlefield, deadly weapon appears immediately. The medieval knights were professional soldiers of middle ages armed with the most fatal weapons. It was said that the “middle ages medieval knight was equivalent to the modern tanks” because of their abilities to destroy their foes effectively in a battlefield.

The weapons which were used by medieval knights during the middle ages varied and changed significantly from time to time. Improvements in technology, weapon designing techniques and machines led to help in these noteworthy changes. However, the dozens of weapon were introduced, but only few of them were able to prove its effectiveness during battlefield. Some of those medieval weapons are summarized below:

• Swords- It is a single-handed and the most renowned weapon used by the medieval knights. Long, sharp, strong and light in weight swords formed an integral part of a knight’s armory which symbolizes power and chivalry of medieval soldiers. One handed Grey Wizard and Templar Sword are some of the most common swords used by medieval soldiers.

• Mace- Mace is another single-handed weapon of knights. It was a short handled weapon with a ball attached to it at a far end. Often, the ball comprises of flanges or spikes.

• Warhammer- It was one of the most common weapons used in the early centuries of medieval combat. Warhammer is very similar to the claw hammer, used in modern times, having one end flat used for striking and other end of piercing beak.

As medieval soldiers follow a complete code of conduct and a rule of chivalry so, accordingly their weapons are determined. The bow, crossbow and the dagger were the three most popular weapons which were not allowed medieval knights to use. The bow and crossbow was discarded because while using them a soldier was unable to face his foe while fighting. And the dagger was considered as a dishonorable weapon because it was used clandestinely.

With the passage of time, the weapons used by medieval knights has evolved and changed significantly with respect to design and usage.
