Warhammer Dark Millenium
How do you make a good gaming computer?
I’m looking to build my own CPU but I need help from
people who have built there own and have experience.
The type of computer I want to make is a strict gaming
PC to play games such as Starcraft 2, Warhammer 40k
Dark Millenium, and Diablo 3. The only problem I have
is selecting which hardware to put into it that will make
my games run smoothly and fast even at highest settings.
So can anyone please list me what you would recommend
me to buy, my budget is $2,500. Please help me create a
monster gaming PC!

For a processor you can start with a i7 920, which is simply superb for cost/performance.
Then proceed to find a motherboard that supports LGA 1366 CPUs, and right now X58 motherboards are great deal. Afterwards move on to either 6 or 12 GB of RAM, 12 being overkill of course, but if you have the money go for 12. Pick yourself either GTX 480 from Nvidia or 5870 from ATi (5970 is buggy atm due to microstuttering; dual chip card). With such a powerful setup you would need a great resolution, 1920×1080 which is like 22-25 inch monitor. If you plan to overclock the processor heavily (3.2+Ghz) you will need an aftermarket cooler which are not all that expensive (search on newegg or elsewhere). Get at least an 800W power supply and 1 or 2 hard drives preferably with high RPM disks, like raptors. Wrap all this in an antec 1200 case or something similar. Install Windows 7 64-bit and you are good to go.
