Warhammer 40k Rulebook

Warhammer 40k question about attacks?
I am new to warhammer and I know in the rulebook it states you get +1 attack for each additional one-handed weapon, but I dont understand if that is already added onto the stats of certain units.
For instanse, Dante has a stat of 4 for attack and holds a pistol & axe. Will his attack be 5 after adding +1 or is it already added? Same goes for a tactical squad sargeant whose stat shows 2, but does it go up to 3 because of his 2 single-handed weapons?
Also, your attack stat only counts for close-combat and NOT shooting, right??? Just wanting to clarify,
Please help…
Generally speaking, the rules will state if the attack for an extra close combat weapon (not “one-handed weapon” – this terminology was abandoned with 5th Edition) is included in a unit’s stat line. If it does not say so, then assume that it isn’t. So in the case of Commander Dante, that does, indeed, mean that he gets 5 attacks or 6 on the charge. Ouch!
Likewise, a tactical squad sergeant has 2 Attacks because he’s a veteran (like a Terminator or Vanguard Veteran). So if he has two close combat weapons, he gains +1 attack and another on the charge: a valuable force multiplier!
You’re right that the Attack state only applies to combat, not to shooting.
