Star Wars Models

The Model Kits Industry
Well when model kits first hit the mainstream market in the 60s it has to be said that they were mainly about getting together as a family and building whatever model you actually bought but things have changes a lot since then.
It would certainly seem that after a short time people really started to get a little bit bored with model kits because the same kinds of things were constantly being released and people just did not want to spend money on it, this is when the model companies started to see another potential and this potential changed model kits forever from this point. This is until major television programmes such as Star Trek which was first released in 1966 started to ship model kits to stores. The fans of franchises like this felt very strongly for them which is why the models were immediate successes. Star Trek models were very popular and then Star Wars models, after this more and more models were being made by companies for films.
Has Sci-Fi Saved Model Kits?
Although I certainly feel that Sci-Fi has played its part when it comes to people buying model kits I certainly would not say that it has played a big part at keeping the sales up. Although there is nothing wrong at all with people actually going out and getting models from their favourite Sci-Fi flicks, what happened to building model ships?.
Now there are all kinds of models around that are out there because of Sci-Fi franchises such as RC helicoptersand RC tanks from the terminator films to crazy figures from movies such as Star Wars. There have even been many things turned into Lego kits from Harry Potter to Ben 10 so model kits are still as important as they once were.
So there you have it really, think of what you want when it comes to this but I have to say Sci-Fi has made a big difference.

Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days $29.95 John Knoll was 14 years old when the first Star Wars film (Episode IV) came out in 1977, and it changed his life. By the time the first prequel, The Phantom Menace, was released in 1999, he was its visual effects supervisor-in charge of all special effects-a position he held through Episodes II (Attack of the Clones) and III (Revenge of the Sith). With Knoll as tour guide, this deluxe addition to Abrams’ 365 Days series provides the single most comprehensive collection of Star Wars images, including breathtaking 360-degree panoramic shots of sets and models, as well as concept art, props, film stills, and memorabilia. The only book that covers all six films, Star Wars: 365 Days is Knoll’s spectacular survey of the visual world created by those films.
