star wars legacy
Is there any Star Wars books after Legacy of the Force, but before the Legacy comics?

Currently, Legacy of the Force is the last series in the Star Wars EU for books. I think the last books in the series are in release or should be coming out shortly. And although I haven’t yet finished this series, I don’t think it will be much longer before the next books or series comes along.

Since Francis Coppola’s epochal Apocalypse Now helped reinvent the scope of what a war film could be, the music of the battlefield epic has logically shifted as well, from heroic martial themes to Platoon’s introspective strains of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and the fusion of Hans Zimmer’s electronic-tribal soundscapes for The Thin Red Line and Black Hawk Down. Composer Nick Glennie-Smit…

The K in ADK comes from the Japanese term for “corporation “, kabushiki kaisha . ADK made various video games for many genres, but their most popular works are their fighting games , particularly the World Heroes series. History Origins ADK was created in July 1980 in Saitama , Japan . The first two arcade video games ADK created were Shougi ( ? ), a basic, but well-developed Japanese chess game; and Janputer ( ? ), the world’s first arcade Mahjong game, which was sold by Sanritsu Giken Corp. Afterwards, Sega and Tecmo would sell ADK-produced games through the early 1980s. In the later 1980s, ADK became something of a 2nd-party developer for SNK . ADK made games for many genres, including sports , shooters , platformers , fighters , and beat ‘em up games. The company became quite famous, with considerable success in North America . In early 1990s, ADK started developing many games for SNK ‘s Neo Geo system. However, through the mid-90s, ADK failed to win very much success. The company eventually went bankrupt and closed its installations in early 2000 (SNK itself would declare bankruptcy the very next year). SNK ended up buying ADK’s intellectual properties. Legacy Today, ADK has a legacy in the hands of SNK Playmore , with new appearances of its characters, notably in the fighting game Neo Geo Battle Coliseum , where Hanzo , Fuuma , Mudman and Neo Dio

Backstory: Inside the Business of News

It is said that journalism is a vital public service as well as a business, but more and more it is also said that big media consolidation; noisy, instant opinions on cable and the Internet; and political “bias” are making a mockery of such high-minded ideals. In Backstory, Ken Auletta explores why one of America’s most important industries is also among its most troubled. He travels from the proud New York Times, the last outpost of old-school family ownership, whose own personnel problems make headline news, into the depths of New York City’s brutal tabloid wars and out across the country to journalism’s new wave, chains like the Chicago Tribune’s, where “synergy” is ever more a mantra. He probes the moral ambiguity of “media personalities”—journalists who become celebrities themselves, padding their incomes by schmoozing with Imus and rounding the lucrative corporate lecture circuit. He reckons with the legacy of journalism’s past and the different prospects for its future, from fallen stars of new media such as Inside.com to the rising star of cable news, Roger Ailes’s Fox News. The product of more than ten years covering the news media for The New Yorker, Backstory is Journalism 101 by the course’s master teacher.

Beyond Paradise: The Life of Ramon Novarro

Beyond Paradise: The Life of Ramon Novarro

$25

The first Latin American actor to become a superstar, Ramon Novarro was for years one of Hollywood’s top actors. Born Ram¢n Samaniego to a prominent Mexican family, he arrived in America in 1916, a refugee from civil wars. By the mid-1920s, he had become one of MGM’s biggest box office attractions, starring in now-classic films, including The Student Prince, Mata Hari, and the original version of Ben-Hur. He shared the screen with the era’s top leading ladies, such as Greta Garbo, Myrna Loy, Joan Crawford, and Norma Shearer, and became Rudolph Valentino’s main rival in the “Latin Lover” category. Yet, despite his considerable professional accomplishments, Novarro’s enduring hold on fame stems from his tragic death—his bloodied corpse was found in his house on Halloween 1968 in what has become one of Hollywood’s most infamous scandals.A lifelong bachelor, Novarro carefully cultivated his image as a man deeply devoted to his family and to Catholicism. His murder shattered that persona. News reports revealed that the dashing screen hero had not only been gay, but was dead at the hands of two young male hustlers. Since then, details of his murder have achieved near mythic proportions, obscuring Novarro’s professional legacy. Beyond Paradise presents a full picture of the man who made motion picture history. Including original interviews with Novarro’s surviving friends, family, co-workers, and the two men convicted of his murder, this biography provides unique insights into an early Hollywood star—a man whose heart was forever in conflict with his image and whose myth continues to fascinate today.

Cloning Terror: The War of Images, 9/11 to the Present

$22.5

The  phrase “War on Terror” has quietly been retired from official usage, but it persists in the American psyche, and our understanding of it is hardly complete. Nor will it be, W. J. T Mitchell argues, without a grasp of the images that it spawned, and that spawned it.Exploring the role of verbal and visual images in the War on Terror, Mitchell finds a conflict whose shaky metaphoric and imaginary conception has created its own reality. At the same time, Mitchell locates in the concept of clones and cloning an anxiety about new forms of image-making that has amplified the political effects of the War on Terror. Cloning and terror, he argues, share an uncanny structural resemblance, shuttling back and forth between imaginary and real, metaphoric and literal manifestations. In Mitchell’s startling analysis, cloning terror emerges as the inevitable metaphor for the way in which the War on Terror has not only helped recruit more fighters to the jihadist cause but undermined the American constitution with “faith-based” foreign and domestic policies.Bringing together the hooded prisoners of Abu Ghraib with the cloned stormtroopers of the Star Wars saga, Mitchell draws attention to the figures of faceless anonymity that stalk the ever-shifting and unlocatable “fronts” of the War on Terror. A striking new investigation of the role of images from our foremost scholar of iconology, Cloning Terror will expand our understanding of the visual legacy of a new kind of war and reframe our understanding of contemporary biopower and biopolitics.
