Star Wars Jedi Academy Books

Star Wars fans – A question about Mara Jade?
I’m confused – not about Mara herself, but about her skills in the force. In the books following the original trilogy, Mara attends Luke’s Jedi Academy, and leaves before learning to master her talent. Throughout the books, she is always picking up little things here and there, learning bit by bit, and finding weak spots to improve on. HOWEVER, in the newer book “Allegiance” (where she is 18 years old) Mara’s skills are finely honed, supposedly by the Emperor himself, and she has no problem using force skills in any manner. Did the author just make her more hardcore for the book, or am I missing some fall from the force somewhere along the line?
Well, this just shows how big of a Star Wars geek I am, but I can answer this one.
In the Heir to the Empire series by Timothy Zahn, the series that introduces Jade, it was explained that she had greater control of her powers while Palpatine was alive. He gave her extra power and focus. For instance, it was explained that if Jade had been allowed to follow Jabba when he was attempting to execute Luke, Han and Chewbacca in Return of the Jedi that they would of been killed because her powers were stronger than Luke’s at that point.
