Star Wars Books Paperback
I want to read some Star Wars books, I heard the…?
I want to read some Star Wars books, I heard the first official book is titled Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice, is this right?
Also has anyone got it in paperback? I have searched online and can only find it in eBook form.
If anyone has a list of all the Star Wars books in chronological order that would be great, preferably official if it makes a difference? I’m not sure.

As for the “first official book” … this falls under the often used phrase “from a certain point of view”. The “Lost Tribe of the Sith” series ARE some of the first titles in the over all time line of SW … BUT … there are a multitude of problems with them. First they aren’t “books” so to speak … they are ebook novellas. They are basically a set of short stories that are being told as an “after thought” to set up the current active story line, Fate Of The Jedi. In a nutshell, the Lost Tribe of the Sith short stories are set 5000 years before the events of the movies to give background info on a story arc that is set around 45 + years after the events of the movies. Confused yet … lol … such is the story of SW. If you’re looking for the first book that was physically written first the answer is “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye”. It was written in 1978 by Alan Dean Foster and is set in between ep IV and ep V.
I can’t tell from your question whether or not you think that the SW movies were made from existing books or not but the answer is a big NO. The books of the Star Wars EU (Expanded Universe of books & comics), including the novel versions of the 6 movies, were written ABOUT the movies. This is just one of the many things that makes the SW story unique from other “saga stories” such as LOTR, Harry Potter, Twilight … etc.
If this is your first “foray” into the books of the SW EU I feel that I must say that starting with the Lost Tribe of the Sith short stories would probably be the worst place to start. This is not to say that the story told in them is “bad” … it’s just that the story told in them will make absolutely no sense at all to you. Without knowing which trilogy, the prequels or the OT, is your “favorite” makes it kind of hard to give advise on the books but I will give it a go. The books set during the prequels and before don’t really need to be read in any kind of real order. The ones set during the prequels give you a better look at some of the established movie characters such as Yoda, Mace Windu etc. The books set during the OT and after are ones that most definitely need to be read in some semblance of order. That being said my suggestion on where to start reading the books set after the movies might puzzle you as there ARE books set before them in the overall time line … BUT … as always, there’s a good reason for that. One of the more “weird” things about the SW EU is that it itself was NOT written in time line order. When the books first started coming out in the early 90s they jumped all over the time line in regards to their “setting”. Also, Lucas has never written a book in his life, he is listed as the author of the novel version of ep IV but it was ghost written by Alan Dean Foster for him. Lucas has a small and very “elite” group of authors that he allows to write the books of the EU. Even though Lucas doesn’t write the books every single one of them have to be approved by him before they are published. It is in this way that he keeps his “iron fisted” handle on the overall story of SW.
As for a suggested starting point … there is only one … The Thrawn Trilogy written by Hugo Award Winning author Timothy Zahn. The titles are “Heir To The Empire”, “Dark Force Rising”, & “The Last Command”. It is these 3 books, much to the almost outrage of Lucas, that most fans point to as being the thing that brought the story of SW back from the dead, I’m definitely one of them. This story is set 5 years after the events of ep VI. Han & Leia are married and Leia is pregnant with their first children, the twins Jacen & Jaina. Luke continues to search the galaxy for lost records of the Old Jedi Order in hopes that he can one day rebuild the Jedi Order. These books also introduce us to most of the new characters that will carry the story forward. Luke actually meets the woman who will one day become his wife in this trilogy. After that I usually suggest the X-Wing books but you could go back to the time line and start with the books in order after the movies at this point also.
