I have a question about collecting things?

I am a huge trekkie,I love Star Trek,but have always been too poor to have anything worthwhile. Until now.
I was out with my wife lookin at yard sales ( I normaly hate this) and I saw on a table in mint condtion an unopen (obviously not put together) model of the original Enterprise from the 60′s. Plus unopend Capt Kirk,Spock and Mcoy action figures all for 5 bucks.( I had never been so gleeful)<< Anyway my question is this,my brother says the modle will be worth more opened and put together because then people can see it.
I dont plan on ever selling them but what is better for collecting?

Breaking the seal of a toy can greatly decrease the collector’s value. With the new movie coming out soon, I would hold onto the toys in an unopened condition. Unless there is evidence of damage to the toy such as storing in high heat (attic or garage) or water seeping in, there is no need to remove the toy. If you don’t know how they were stored, look to the condition of the figures- if they are not melted and in good condition, the ship should be too.
