Star Trek: TOS Remastered – old special effects available?
I’ve got the Remastered Edition of Star Trek: The Original Series – regular DVD, not Blu-ray. I would really rather watch with the old special effects, though, and I can’t seem to find such an option on the disc. Is there a way to watch without the Remastered effects? Someone told me to turn the disc upside-down, but when I tried that the player made a rather worrying scratchy noise, and I removed the disc quickly for fear of it being ruined.
And yes, I realize the irony of a Trekkie being this technologically inept.
Try the angle button….I have them as well, though I currently don’t have a DVD player…but I did a google search and http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-Complete-Season/dp/B0002I831S indicates that the angle can be used to switch between the original and remastered effects.

You can watch an entire show with the old or new effects, or, if you’d prefer to irritate your friends and significant others, switch between them in real time with the “angle” button on your remote. Are you paying attention, George Lucas? This is what we want in a Star Wars Blu-Ray! The beautiful new with the respected old, side-by-side. Big kudos go to CBS/Paramount and the Trek team for the job they’ve done here.
