Offensive Strategy

American Football basic plays (strategy) offensive?
I’m new to football. I watch it, but im clueless when they say plays. Also in football games, i have no clue what to run or do. Thanks Alot.
The best football is power football. Concentrate on the run.
For the most part, think of the line as the same on both sides (left and right of center).
The running back runs in between the lineman.the gaps between the offensive linemen are numbered. Starting on the left side, the gap between the center, and guard is number 1 hole. The gap between the left guard and tackle is 3…and so on. The right side is set-up the same way, but these gaps are even numbered (2,4, etc).
If you are the quarterback, and wanted the back to run through the gap between the center and left guard, you would (assuming you’re playing sandlot) call for the back the run through the 1 hole.
This not only tells the back, where to run, but also tells the linemen to block the defensive players in opposite directions from the middle of the #1 hole, to give the running back the most space in which to run.
This gives you the idea, but most of the basics are in books, and websites.
There’s got to be a football for dummies, or for beginners.
Hope this helps.

1942: The Year That Tried Men’s Souls $15 From the author of Forrest Gump and A Storm in Flanders comes a riveting chronicle of America’s most critical hour. On December 6, 1941, an unexpected attack on American territory pulled an unprepared country into a terrifying new brand of warfare. Novelist and popular historian Winston Groom vividly re-creates the story of America’s first year in World War II. To the generation of Americans who lived through it, the Second World War was the defining event of the twentieth century, and the defining events of that war were played out in the year 1942.This account covers the Allies’ relentless defeats as the Axis overran most of Europe, North Africa, and the Far East. But midyear the tide began to turn. America finally went on the offensive in the Pacific, and in the west the British defeated Rommel’s panzer divisions at El Alamein while the U.S. Army began to push the Germans out of North Africa. By the year’s end, the smell of victory was in the air. 1942, told with Groom’s accomplished storyteller’s eye, allows us into the admirals’ strategy rooms, onto the battle fronts, and into the heart of a nation at war. |

America is the battleground. And we must prevail. |

A Crisis in Confederate Command: Edmund Kirby Smith, Richard Taylor, and the Army of the Trans-Mississippi $39.95 In A Crisis in Confederate Command, Jeffery S. Prushankin scrutinizes the antagonistic relationship between Confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith and his key subordinate, Richard Taylor. Prushankin offers a perspective on the events in the Trans-Mississippi through the eyes of these two high-strung men and analyzes how their clash in personalities and in notions of duty and glory shaped the course of the Civil War.Smith and Taylor, Prushankin explains, disagreed over how to thwart Federal incursions across Louisiana and Arkansas. Smith, a West Point graduate and disciple of Joseph E. Johnston, owed a debt to politicians in Arkansas and Missouri for helping him secure his appointment and so opted for a defensive policy that favored those states. Taylor, a Louisiana political general who had served his apprenticeship under Stonewall Jackson, argued for an offensive strike against the enemy. The friction between the two reached a climax at the Red River Campaign in 1864 when Taylor blatantly disobeyed orders from Smith and attacked Federal troops. Prushankin shows that what began as a dispute over strategy degenerated into a battle of egos and a succession of caustic personal attacks that eventually led to Smith’s relieving Taylor from command. Despite their discord, Prushankin argues, Smith and Taylor produced one of the Confederacy’s greatest military accomplishments in the Red River campaign victory against a Yankee juggernaut. With his insightful portraits of Smith and Taylor, use of previously untapped primary sources, and new interpretations of correspondence from key figures, Prushankin imparts fresh understanding of the psychology of leadership in the Civil War as a whole. About the Author:Jeffery S. Prushankin is a lecturer in military history at Penn State University, Abington. He lives in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. |

A Grand Strategy for America $21.95 The United States today is the most powerful nation in the world, perhaps even stronger than Rome was during its heyday. It is likely to remain the world’s preeminent power for at least several decades to come. What behavior is appropriate for such a powerful state? To answer this question, Robert J. Art concentrates on “grand strategy”-the deployment of military power in both peace and war to support foreign policy goals. He first defines America’s contemporary national interests and the specific threats they face, then identifies seven grand strategies that the United States might contemplate, examining each in relation to America’s interests. The seven are:* dominion-forcibly trying to remake the world in America’s own image;* global collective security-attempting to keep the peace everywhere;* regional collective security-confining peacekeeping efforts to Europe;* cooperative security-seeking to reduce the occurrence of war by limiting other states’ offensive capabilities;* isolationism-withdrawing from all military involvement beyond U.S. borders;* containment-holding the line against aggressor states; and* selective engagement-choosing to prevent or to become involved only in those conflicts that pose a threat to the country’s long-term interests.Art makes a strong case for selective engagement as the most desirable strategy for contemporary America. It is the one that seeks to forestall dangers, not simply react to them; that is politically viable, at home and abroad; and that protects all U.S. interests, both essential and desirable. Art concludes that “selective engagement is not a strategy for all times, but it is the best grand strategy for these times.” |
