its the ring thats elvish and is 69 bucks on noblecollections.com. i was wondering if anyone knew what it translated to…thanks.
The inscription on the ring was in the ancient Black Speech language, but wrote in an Elvish script.
This is a translation:
Ash nazg durb at ul ûk –One ring to rule them all
Ash nazg gimb at ul — One ring to find them
Ash nazg thrak at ul ûk –One ring to bring them all
Agh burz um ishi krimp at ul — And in the darkness bind them.
Tolkien was said to have hated the Black Speech, because it sounded so vile when spoken, and he did not enjoy using it, even in writing. Other than the inscribed curse on the ring, there is no other use of the language and little is known about it. Unlike his Elven languages, like Quenya and Sindarin, which were far most extensive and widely-used in Middle Earth. It is possible to hold a conversation in these languages, because Tolkien took pride in the beauty of the Elven languages, and was diligent in trying to make them as complete and comprehensive as possible. Where that would be impossible in the Black Speech, because it is not a complete language–the only example of it’s use being the inscription on the One Ring.
