Top Ten Blu-ray Film Releases For the Year 2010

Looking for some good Blu-ray Movies?  2010 saw a variety of Blu-ray Movies being released. From past classics to recent Box Office hits. 2010 was a wonderful year for Blu-rays. But which films were the Best? To have a truly great Blu-ray disc you must have a combination of stunning visuals and sound. Both of which represents the absolute best HD has to offer. And plenty of extra features which elevate the discs far above anything you see on a standard DVD. Finally, but certainly not least, is the actual movie itself. It must be a top-notch movie experience that leaves us wanting to come back over and over again. The following is a list of the best Blu-ray movies I think fit this criteria. The ultimate Blu-ray Movies of 2010 that everyone should have in their movie collection.

10. Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy: Most of us were disappointed this was the Blu-ray theatrical release and not the Extended Edition. But the theatrical versions are still great movies. Shown in 2.41:1 aspect ratio, with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound, this HD release is the best quality we have right now to see these movies.

9. Avatar Extended Edition: What better way to return to the world of Avatar, then in glorious 1080p video resolution. This spectacular 3 disc extended collector’s edition includes the original theatrical release, the special edition re-release, and the exclusive extended cut not seen in theaters. Add to this over eight hours of bonus materials, 1.78 aspect ratio (no letter block bars) and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, you are sure to have a movie experience like no other. Until the 3D version becomes readily available, this release is your best option to get your Avatar fix.

8. Lost: The Complete Collection: View every single episode to one of TVs ultimate journeys. This epic show redefined how we view television; right from the dramatic opening scene to the heart wrenching final moment. Watch every episode in 1080p and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. This wonderfully packaged deluxe box set, not only has over 3 hours of bonus footage never before seen, but is packed full of extra features. This landmark series represents TV at its finest.

7. Psycho: Filled with extra features, this Alfred Hitchcock suspense classic finally comes to Blu-ray. The low-budget film looks grainy and dingy in some parts, but overall the high-quality 1080p/VC-1 video transfer is terrific. The new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 provides a solid soundtrack to one of the most best horror films ever made.  

6. Toy Story Trilogy: Ultimate Toy Box Collection: You can now experience the entire Toy Story trilogy in a ten disc Blu-ray Box set. All three movies are here, including DVD and Digital copies of the movies. All three films are in stunning 1080p HD with a DTS HD 7.1 Master Audio and a DTS HD 5.1 Master Audio soundtracks. Plenty of extra features to keep you occupied. Released in a covered wagon toy box packaging, it is the only way to relive these Disney/Pixar classics.

5. The Bridge on the River Kwai: Director David Lean is known for making great epic films. And The Bridge on the River Kwai is one of his best. This newly remastered 4K digital restoration version, with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, preserves its original aspect ratio. So you get to view the film as the filmmaker intended. Along with extra features, including a thirty-five page book with stories and photos, this is truly one of cinemas greatest experiences.

4. Life (narrated by David Attenborough): This original series from the BBC is a followup to the highly successful Planet Earth and The Blue Planet: Seas of Life. And like those series, Life should be considered essential viewing and be a staple in everyone’s Blu-ray collection. This four discs box set makeup the latest chapter in the milestone natural history series. The awe-inspiring HD visuals and solid soundtrack are absolutely stunning.

3. Seven Samurai: This masterpiece by Akira Kurosawa is one of the most influential films of all time. It considered by many to be one of the greatest movies ever made. Released by Criterion, which are responsible for releasing and remastering critically acclaimed movies. If you are a movie fan, this movie has to be a part of your library. And there is no better way to watch it than this great remastered Blu-ray version.

2. Apocalypse Now (Three-disc Full-disclosure Edition): One of the best films of the past thirty-five years gets the High-Definition treatment. The three disc deluxe edition includes three ]movies|films]; the 1979 version, the “Apocalypse Now Redux”, the documentary “Hearts of Darkness” and over nine hours of extra features including a forty-eight page collectible booklet. The 1080p transfer was personally supervised by Francis Ford Coppola. And the original 2.35:1 theatrical aspect ratios has been kept. There is enough here to make every fan satisfied and win some new ones.

1. Alien Anthology: There are a total of eight versions of the 4 movies, 2 bonus discs,  over sixty-five hours of extra features, including never before seen content.
