Hot on the Heels of Harry Potter: Universal may be Planning Lord of the Rings Theme Park

This summer saw the opening of Universal’s latest addition to its theme park empire, ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’, which is proving a great success so far, attracting hordes of dedicated Potter fans. Here fans can live out the movies as they make their way down through the corridors of Hogwarts, stroll the alleys and shops that Harry Potter finds himself in.

For fans it’s been a magical experience, for the parents of Potter fanatics it’s been a very expensive one, in short a very worth while addition to the Universal theme parks. Now there are rumours circulating that Universal may be considering yet another addition to their gaggle of theme parks flowing through Florida.

Having successfully dipped in to fantasy, attaching to a lucrative franchise with Harry Potter, Universal may be planning to repeat their trick, this time with the JRR Tolkien’s equally revered Lord of the Rings series.

Perhaps in the not so distant future the park’s visitors will be able to arrive fresh from rubbing shoulders with wizards, riding hippogriffs and buying wands, to be able to walk among the hobbits and elves of middle earth.

Though no official announcement has been made from Universal regarding this potential endeavour, internet forums have been flooded with post suggesting this exciting new possibility.

Over at the MiceChat forums, a website concerned with Florida theme parks , one user “giggling_gargoyles” suggests that Universal have sent out a ‘not so subtle’ email hoping to assess the interest for a Lord of the Rings theme park. The email inquires about potential rides, merchandise, characters from the series that potential customers would wish to see included. The email was also keen to see if the demographic were otherwise interested in franchises such as Star Trek, Indiana Jones or Harry Potter.

The post on MiceChat quotes the following from the Universal email:

Imagine if you will a world unlike any you’ve ever visited before: it’s Middle Earth, the ancient and beautiful land forged by J.R.R. Tolkien as the backdrop for his two most well known creations, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Walk as a human among dwarves, elves, orcs and hobbits — all faithfully recreated and portrayed in the spirit of the original characters as they appeared in both the books and the movies. In this land you’ll experience one-of-a-kind rides and attractions that bring to life some of the most memorable experiences of Tolkien’s world including Bilbo’s hobbit hole, the fortress at Isengard (before it was destroyed) and even the dark world of Mordor — including the terrifying volcanic Mount Doom.

While the future of the potential Lord of the Rings theme park remains largely speculative, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, has been such a huge success that it may encourage a chance on another successful fantasy franchise.

The Harry Potter theme park has proven a very worthwhile pursuit for Universal, a firm addition to the list of destinations for those in their Orlando vacation rentals seeking rides and theme park thrills.

Meanwhile as the Hobbit film remains imminent, now with Peter Jackson set to replace Guillermo Del Toro. With this strengthening the LOTR brand even further perhaps Universal can latch on to that hype and strike gold once more.

This five-disc set caps off the “complete recordings” series, which offers extensive versions of Howard Shore’s score for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But there is still plenty to please fans here, a…

Although it was ultimately overshadowed by Peter Jackson’s live-action Lord of the Rings trilogy, Ralph Bakshi’s animated adaptation of J.R.R. Excerpt: 19th century 20th century 21st century The 2000s decade in film involved many significant films. Thousands of full-length films have been produced during the first decade of the 21st Century. Building on developments in the 1990s, computers are used to create effects that would have previously been more expensive, from the subtle erasing of surrounding islands in Cast Away (leaving Tom Hanks’ character stranded with no other land in sight) to the spectacular battle scenes such as those in Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Matrix and 300. In addition, film genres not known for their popular appeal in North America became increasingly attractive to filmgoers: films in foreign languages like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Passion of the Christ and Letters from Iwo Jima; and documentary films like An Inconvenient Truth, March of the Penguins, Super Size Me, and Fahrenheit 9/11, became very successful. Also gaining popularity was the use of Computer-generated imagery (CGI) to produce films. These types of films were originally seen in the 1990s with the likes of Toy Story and its sequel Toy Story 2, but CGI films became more popular in 2001 with the release of Shrek. Other popular CGI films include Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc., Shrek 2, and Ratatouille. The 2000s also saw a resurgence of several genres. For example, Gladiator, Moulin Rouge!, and Spider-Man increased the popularity of the Epic, Musical, and comic book genres, respectively. The … More:

Beowulf and Other Stories: A New Introduction to Old English, Old Icelandic and Anglo-Norman Literatures

Beowulf and Other Stories: A New Introduction to Old English, Old Icelandic and Anglo-Norman Literatures

$45.4

Beowulf & Other Stories was first conceived in the belief that the study of Old English – and its close cousins, Old Icelandic and Anglo-Norman – can be a genuine delight, covering a period as replete with wonder, creativity and magic as any other in literature. Now in a fully revised second edition, this collection of essays written by leading academics in the field is set to build upon its established reputation as the standard introduction to the literatures of the time.Beowulf & Other Stories captures the fire and bloodlust of the great epic, Beowulf, and the sophistication and eroticism of the Exeter Riddles. Fresh interpretations give new life to the spiritual ecstasy of The Seafarer and to the imaginative dexterity of The Dream of the Rood, and provide the student and general reader with all they might need to explore and enjoy this complex but rewarding field. The book sheds light, too, on the shadowy contexts of the period, with suggestive and highly readable essays on matters ranging from the dynamism of the Viking Age to Anglo-Saxon input into The Lord of the Rings, from the great religious prose works to the transition from Old to Middle English. It also branches out into related traditions, with expert introductions to the Icelandic Sagas, Viking Religion and Norse Mythology. Peter S. Baker provides an outstanding guide to taking your first steps in the Old English language, while David Crystal provides a crisp linguistic overview of the entire period. With a new chapter by Mike Bintley on Anglo-Saxon archaeology and a revised chapter by Stewart Brookes on the prose writers of the English Benedictine Reform, this updated second edition will be essential reading for students of the period. Richard North teaches Old and Middle English at University College London, and is author of Heathen Gods in Old English Literature (1997) and The Origins of

This contemporary retelling of the ancient epic — narrated with a touch of banter by the faithful Wiglaf and featuring vividly dramatic illustrations — follows the mythic hero from his disarming of the gruesome Grendel to his sword battle with the monster’s sea hag mother to his final, fiery showdown with an avenging dragon.

Anderson. Working from Frank Herbert’s own notes, the acclaimed authors reveal the chapter of the Dune saga most eagerly anticipated by readers: the Butlerian Jihad.Throughout the Dune novels, Frank Herbert frequently referred to the war in which humans wrested their freedom from “thinking machines.” In Dune: The Butlerian Jihad, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson bring to life the story of that war, a tale previously seen only in tantalizing hints and clues. Finally, we see how Serena Butler’s passionate grief ignites the struggle that will liberate humans from their machine masters; here is the amazing tale of the Zensunni Wanderers, who escape bondage to flee to the desert world where they will declare themselves the Free Men of Dune. And here is the backward, nearly forgotten planet of Arrakis, where traders have discovered the remarkable properties of the spice melange. . . .Dune: The Machine CrusadeMore than two decades have passed since the events chronicled in Dune: The Butlerian Jihad.
