What is the MAIN difference between a “2.0Ghz Intel “Pentium D”(Dual Core) chip and a 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo” chip?

Please provide specific answers…not just saying that “they consume less power” or that “Core 2 Duo works colder than Pentium IV”…yes! we all know that!!!, I mean, in the architecture of the CPU, without too many technical specificactions, in common hardware languange for Mid’s 2007, what is the main difference between them??, they both have 2 processors, they both 2MB L2 CACHE per each processor (not all of the versions on the market but most of them nowadays), so…..WTF???? Why the market says that Core 2 Duo is better?? is it all a commercial strategy????

The Pentium D is a discontinued model. The Core 2 Duo models are the next generation.
Unfortunately, the answer to your question is that they run cooler, use less power, and don’t stress the clock speed. The Core 2 Duo models are also available in 45nm, whereas the Pentium D stopped at 65nm.
All this means is that while you might be able to overclock a Pentium D by 10% and be stable, you can overclock the Core 2 Duos by much more and still have a stable system.
