Call of Duty: Black Ops was one of the most highly-anticipated video games of 2010. Released by Activision on November 9, 2010, with a retail price of $59.99, COD: Black Ops is available for multiple gaming platforms, including Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii, and Microsoft Windows PCs.
Black Ops is the seventh game installment in the extremely popular Call of Duty series. Set primarily during the Cold War, the action takes place in various hot spots such as Vietnam, Cuba and Laos. Focusing on military strategies, campaigns and operations, players assume the role of Alex Mason or Jason Hudson, Special Action Forces Operatives.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is a member of the “first-person shooter” genre of video games, in which the player experiences the game action through the eyes of the main character – i.e., the shooter. The protagonist characters carry out their missions behind enemy lines. When running in single-player mode, the game is organized into missions that a player has to complete, with objectives that he or she is required to meet. Call of Duty: Black Ops has thirteen player levels, ensuring plenty of game play time.
The characters have access to a variety of weapons, including a variety of firearms and. When a character is close enough to the enemy, he can perform an attack which ensures a one-hit-killing. Like other Call of Duty games, a player can assume three positions: standing, crouching or lying. His position will affect his rate of stealth, movement, precision, and accuracy.
One of the exciting things about this new game release is its online multiplayer mode. This mode showcases in-game currency, customization of weapons, and socialization with other gamers. In addition to the multiplayer mode, there is also a new cooperative campaign, which includes up to four players, and utilizes completely different levels than the single player mode.

A currency system has been created to allow players to purchase clothes, accessories and weapons.

In the multiplayer mode, players can now record and manage in-game video games for them to share via the “theatre mode.”

Submachine guns now have full motion speed when aiming.

Drivable vehicles are back in the form of kill streaks like Chopper Gunner and RC-XD.

Weapons can now also be significantly customized with characteristics such as emblems, clan tag writing, and painting. A player can also choose between a Reflex Sight and Red Dot Sight. These are two items that share the similar traits but look visually different.
Not only does the new Call of Duty game offer some new innovations in terms of game play, it has also been released in a several editions. The two limited editions are the “Hardened” and “Prestige” editions. “Hardened” includes a SteelBook case, four exclusive levels in the co-op mode, a medal with its own display case, and a specialty avatar for Playstation Home or XBox live. The “Prestige” edition goes one step further, with all of the “Hardened” content, plus a remote control vehicle modeled after the game’s RC-XD vehicle with audio and video feedback.
No matter which edition you choose, Call of Duty: Black Ops is sure to be one of the most intense and advanced combat games you will ever play. The game provides hours of engaging gameplay in each of the single player, co-op and multiplayer levels.
