So you are leveling rogue in World of Warcraft . Here is a guide to help you decide what the best rogue professions to level are. First get your rogue leveled up to at least level five. If you have gotten out of the starter area you are probably there or close. At level five you get to choose your professions.

Whenever I start a new character I usually run gathering professions until level 40. You can sell the items you gather and having them leveled up will help with gathering your own materials later on. The best rogue professions to start with are skinning and mining. You will be killing a lot of beast monsters which can be skinned and thus level your profession as you xp. There are a lot of mining points scattered all over and smelted ores tend to sell very well on the auction house.
I have also found that you can trade ores or stones to people leveling smithing professions for crafting weapons and the all important sharpening stones. I always keep my weapons sharpened as the increase in damage means fights take less time.
Also for any job I suggest starting first aid and cooking from the start. There are several quests at which give cooking recipes as rewards and its either use them or drop them. You cannot npc sell them and they do not sell well at the auction house. You can use the cloth dropped from the humanoid monsters to level your first aid. As a rogue you will be using this a lot as you level. Rogues do great damage but being restricted to leather type armor, they don’t take damage well, and first aid will save a lot of time resting.
As you advance in the game and you decide you want to try a craft, one of the best rogue professions is leatherworking. If you have already leveled skinning, this will be easy as most of the materials you need are leather, cloth and thread which are all dropped from beasts and humanoids you kill. I go with leather working because it sells well, and you can usually get the materials easily farming or cheap on the auction house.
Any rogue should remember you also get a great class skill that is used as a profession. Lock picking can make you a lot of money. You can start it between level 16 and 20. You will get a quest from your rogue trainer. Once completed you can start leveling you lockpicking skill. Then just sit in a city and listen in on Trade channel. A lot of people advertise there for when they need a lock opened. Sometimes people are willing to pay more for the picking than the contents of the chest are worth.
A quick note, even if you decide to level a crafting profession from the start,it is not a good idea to level it just so you can use it. Unless you are leveling slowly, you will quickly out level your crafting skill, and everything you will be making will be way too low of a level for you to use. Also unless you are farming for all your materials, low level items do not tend to profit very well. You will sell, but if you are trying to make money, which is the main reason for professions in the first place, low level professions will usually cost more than they sell for. professions can be and exciting part of wow but choosing the best rogue professions can mean success in the game or failure.
